Yesterday, we hosted a fantastic event as part of our NETWORK AND… series, bringing together members and industry partners to explore Kent’s exceptional spectrum of beer and cider varieties.
The session was expertly led by Jane Peyton, the UK’s first accredited cider sommelier and Britain’s first Beer Sommelier of the year. Held at The Cow Shed at The Farm House, West Malling - courtesy of Grace from Elite Pubs and her wonderful team - the event featured a lively atmosphere, delicious pizza and nibbles, and a deep dive into Kent’s most interesting drinks.
We kicked off with two remarkable ciders from Nightingale Cider. First was Wild Disco, a wild-fermented cider made from Discovery apples, followed by Highland Disco, their barrel-aged, bottle-conditioned special edition cider. Next, we sampled two ciders from Kentish Pip: Skylark, a blend of cider and dessert apples, and Brut SE, a traditional-method, bottle-conditioned cider.
Then it was time to explore Kent’s beers. We began with Gadds' Green Hop Ale, crafted with freshly picked, undried hops, resulting in a bright and hoppy ale with a unique freshness. Next came Underhill ESB from Moot Brew, a biscuity, malty ale with spicy and honeyed undertones. Finally, we sampled Goody Ales Good Lord Porter, a rich, velvety porter featuring bold coffee notes.
It was a brilliant turnout, with attendees enjoying the opportunity to network, learn, and taste their way through Kent’s beer and cider history. A special thanks to Calvin & Will from Moot and Del from Kentish Pip for adding their expertise to the evening, and to Jane Peyton for her incredible guidance.
This event showcased the spirit of Kent’s beer and cider community and the innovation of its producers, leaving us inspired for future NETWORK AND… events. Stay tuned for what’s next!
