We launched Lily’s Kitchen because we wanted to find a way of creating opportunities for people from all walks of life to access work and training. We wanted to challenge the idea work and training are only available for some us. We wanted to use our love of food, community and the environment to feed into our ambitions. This is how Lily’s became a community.
We are based at Singleton Village Hall and our Pay as you Feel cafe hopes to help reach those in the community who can’t afford to pay to be able to come and have a coffee and something to eat without having to worry! We are also asking that if you’re able to afford to donate a few extra pennies when you visit then this will help the families and customers who can’t afford to pay.
We call this a ‘pay it forward’ scheme. As of the end of October we will also be a Warm Room. This is an initiative that’s been launched to help with the cost of living and increase in electricity. Rather than sitting at home with the heating on low or off, you can come and visit us. You will also receive a warm welcome from our staff and interns!
