2025 marks half a century since The Wooden Spoon Preserving Company first started production of its fine preserves in the village of Wye, situated in the picturesque Garden of England.
Since its inception, the company has gradually grown from a small venture into a renowned brand locally, nationally and even internationally. It has developed a trusted range of high quality jams, marmalades, chutneys and bottled fruits. In recent years it has also moved into the production of curds, no added sugar preserves and pickles.
Combining a range of time-honoured and contemporary recipes, the company continues to pay tribute to its roots using the finest ingredients including a wide variety of local and British produce (from fruits to lavender, vegetables to liqueurs).
Founded in 1975 by Peter Bolt, the company was then acquired by family friend and former employee Jeff Higgins alongside his family in 2005.
“It hard to believe that my family has run ‘The Spoon’ for 20 years, and that I first worked here back in 1988 with my friend Nic and his parents Ann and Peter, the founders”, explains MD Jeff Higgins. “I did a degree in Sports Science, worked in Europe, The Middle East, West Africa and never for one minute did I think I would be returning to take on this company’s legacy”. He concludes. The company still has big plans ahead, not least moving to a beautiful new site on the edge of the village.
The Wooden Spoon remains a family business and wishes to thank all its customers. Here’s to 50 more years of crafting delicious jams and memories!
