This week, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting our latest Produced in Kent members' event at the incredible Docker Bakery in Folkestone - an experience filled with craftsmanship, community, and of course, plenty of delicious bakes!
We started the session in the best way possible: with perfectly brewed coffee and heavenly pastries that set the tone for a hands-on and inspiring afternoon. Then, it was time to get our hands floury as we stepped into the world of artisan breadmaking. Let’s just say that baguette-making is definitely an art - one that’s trickier than it looks! 😅👨🍳
Beyond the flour-dusted fun, we had the privilege of learning about Docker’s incredible journey, from its humble beginnings in a single shipping container by Folkestone Harbour to the thriving business it is today. We were fascinated to hear how their passion for sustainability drives everything they do - from feeding their sourdough starter twice a day to using a plant-based approach and a sustainably powered oven that runs on UK wood pellets. Every loaf, every bake, is crafted with care, and that’s something truly special. 🔥🍞
We also had the chance to explore Kent Food Hubs CIC, located right next door. This fantastic organisation connects local producers with customers through a weekly pickup and delivery service, making it easier than ever to shop local and support sustainable businesses. If you haven’t checked them out yet, visit www.kentfoodhubs.co.uk to learn more!
Of course, no gathering is complete without good food and great company, and this event was no exception. We wrapped up the day with plenty of networking and even more freshly baked treats (because let’s be honest, who could resist?).
A huge thank you to Docker Bakery for hosting us so warmly, to Beckie Alves for sharing her insights on Kent Food Hubs, and to everyone who joined us - —your enthusiasm and energy are what make these events so special. 🙌
