The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company was founded in 1982 when the Smith family retired to the UK from India. Since the 1920s, two generations of the family have worked as tea planters. Grandfather Mr

Robert Stammers travelled to India to a life in the wilds of Assam, ultimately managing the famous Behora Tea Estate. Later, father Mr Malcolm Smith worked for the James Warren Tea Company based in Calcutta. In 1982, having returned from India, we set up our Kent-based company, father and son in partnership. Having helped set up the Sussex Tea Company in the mid-1980s, we incorporated it into the fold in the early nineties, resulting in the Kent and Sussex title.

Our guiding principle was to introduce quality tea and coffee to the people of Kent and Sussex. The family settled in the village of Pluckley, and this is where we proceeded to trade, packing tea bags, loose teas and

roasting coffee by hand. To this day, we are committed to quality, ethicality and service. Every order is processed fresh and packed by hand, not off the shelf, supplying businesses and private customers alike.

Our company is still run by its founder Mr Richard Smith and mother Mrs Janet Smith. Together with our wonderful team, we welcome you to our factory and retail shop at Pivington Mill just outside Pluckley.

We stock over 1,000 Teas and Coffees, as well as being specialist wholesale suppliers to the catering and retail trade: from coffee shops, tea rooms, hotels, pubs to restaurants and local independent retailers

across Kent, Sussex and nationally. We offer advice and information, from designing bespoke loose tea blends and espresso coffee blends to barista training and afternoon tea menu creation. Serve the best - quality first!

Try our flagship “Pluckley Tea” for a good strong cuppa blended for the waters of Kent. In Sussex, we offer our Sussex Tea “Original Kenya Blend”, while our Kentish Roast Coffees have been served for decades across the south-east.

Our online store, meanwhile, provides the largest range of teas and coffees in the UK, where you can buy your favourite brew and even subscribe to a regular delivery to your door. A click and collect service is available for

those with an adventurous streak, finding us in the beautiful Kentish countryside!
