Myatts of Mockbeggar are a family run fruit farm near Rochester and have been growing the finest quality fruit since 1993. In December 2020 we had Forced Rhubarb we were unable to sell because the sticks were too thin or 'wonky' but they still tasted delicious. We thought, rather than let it go to waste, why not create a delicious new drink. Brain storming ideas over a glass of English Sparkling Wine, we thought if we are going to make a drink why not make a fizz!
Using 100% Rhubarb, we have used the traditional method of bottle fermentation to create a light, refreshing drink with hints of Rhubarb and delicate bubbles.
Our Aim is to reduce fruit waste. Our main farming business supplies supermarkets with some of the highest quality fresh fruit in the UK, winning multiple awards. However, not all is suitable for our customers due to being out of customer specification, whether that’s because of size, shape or colour. To see tonnes of fruit go to waste every year, just because of the way it looks, is heart breaking after all of the effort that goes into producing it. Therefore, we have decided to start making our surplus fruit into something yummy…starting with Rhubarb Sparkling Wine.
