Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018 Great Comp Garden is an exceptionally beautiful 7-acre garden surrounding an early 17th century manor. The skilful design of sweeping lawns, winding woodland paths and formal areas entices the visitor to explore around the next corner. Romantic ruins combine with luxuriant planting to great effect, allowing panoramic views of the garden whilst creating the perfect microclimate for the extensive range of exotic plants collected by their RHS Award Winning Curator, William Dyson.
In Spring the garden erupts into bloom with numerous Magnolias, Azaleas and Rhododendrons, under-planted with large drifts of Hellebores and bulbs whilst Summer brings warmth and extravagance from the rich and fiery colours of Salvias, Dahlias, Kniphofias, Crocosmias and Fuchsias; these are punctuated with ornamental grasses in great variety. Also on offer at Great Compare delicious homemade teas and lunches in the Old Dairy Tearoom and an eclectic range of choice and unusual plants from Dyson’s Nurseries.
