Festival Success !! Date: 21/06/2007
Our First Festival Is A Resounding Success!!
As the event organisers, Produced in Kent, are confident that the Kent Food and Drink Festival will become a regular date in the county’s calendar after the inaugural event in Canterbury proved to be a resounding success.
The two-day festival in the Dane John Gardens had support from Canterbury City Council, the ABode Hotel, as well as two Michelin star television chef Michael Caines.
Produced in Kent Chairman Richard Long said: “This was a wonderful occasion and an excellent opportunity to once again display the best of the county’s produce. There was a great atmosphere and the event was very well-received by those in attendance.
“The traders had a great two days and it’s fantastic that the public got a chance to meet the producers and talk to them to pass on their expertise with advice and tips on flavours, seasonality and provenance."
“We would very much like to make this a regular event and having seen the enthusiasm for this inaugural event, I certainly think there is the appetite from the public.”
28 stallholders attended and a wide selection of high quality food and drink were on offer.
Cookery demonstrations & lectures were well attended in the special demonstration marquee. Subjects covered included chocolate making, Kentish desserts, cooking with game and seasonal produce.
The popular Taste of Kent Awards were also launched at the festival allowing the public a chance to see, taste and nominate their favourite producers.
On the Sunday evening to conclude the weekend, a special dinner celebrating the best of Kentish produce took place at the ABode Hotel.
‘Kent On A Plate’ saw some of the county’s finest chefs use their culinary expertise to put together a sumptuous four course menu showcasing the best produce from the county accompanied by carefully selected wines from Chapel Down English Wines.
The four chefs taking part included Tim Johnson, Apicius, Cranbrook; Mark Rossi, Michael Caines Restaurant, Canterbury; Neil Wiggins, Eastwell Manor, Boughton Lees and Ben Williams, St Augustine’s Restaurant, Canterbury.
